WHO WE ARE

Our History

The Syracuse Improv Collective was founded in 2011 by two long-form improv teams. Our first shows were performed in an abandoned bank on Warren Street. The SIC’s founding members share a collected experience of 100+ years in improv from multiple cities and theaters. Their vision was to create a welcoming community for anyone committed to the art form of improv in Syracuse.

Our Growth

Since our inception, our organization has grown and evolved. Several new teams now perform with the SIC, and our Collectivists seek to influence positive change through improv comedy. In 2018 we became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and developed committees to further our reach in the community. We are so grateful for new friends. We’d love for you to come play with us!

Our Mission & Vision

The mission of the Syracuse Improv Collective is to foster a more vibrant Syracuse community through long-form improvisational comedy performance and training.

Our vision is for Syracuse to be known for its lively local arts scene by providing a welcoming improv comedy community that supports creative performances and transformative learning for actors and audiences.

OUR CORE VALUES

PLAY

We do long-form improv because it’s fun – a creative outlet that is artful, challenging, and rewarding.

DIVERSITY

We are committed to cultivating a diverse community in all areas of the organization and seek to reflect our community across race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, and age.

TEAMWORK

At its core, improv is creative collaboration. We approach the activities of the SIC with that same spirit.

EVOLUTION

We support the development of our performers in trying new improv forms, using their talents outside of the SIC, and inviting new members to take on responsibilities within the SIC. We empower our performers, teachers, and students to express and execute fresh creative ideas.

INCLUSION

We welcome, respect, and support all performers and audience members.

ARTISTIC FREEDOM

We seek to offer an environment where performers can explore, embracing failure as a natural step on the road to success.
